ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION

The American Association of University Women is a national organization, founded in 1881, and headquartered in Washington, DC. AAUW promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change.

The Sunnyvale-Cupertino branch was chartered in 1962 and now has about 200 members. We are committed to support for women's education, legislation and advocacy for women's rights. We try to include both friendship and fun in what we do.

Locally we support gender equity by supporting Expanding Your Horizons, a math/science conference for girls; funding girls to Tech Trek math/science camp; and helping with the Teens with Tots program.

Our branch has completed four Research and Projects endowments through the Educational Foundation of the Association. They fund community actions projects. We also raise money for the Legal Advocacy Fund which provides funding and support for female professors who have been denied tenure.

Each month we have a general branch meeting in addition to a variety of interest group meetings including books, bridge, eating, and Great Decisions.

Membership is open to all graduates who hold an associate, baccalaureate or a higher degree from an accredited college or university. Student affiliation is available to undergraduates enrolled in a two or four year college or university. In principle and practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin or disability.
