The Educational Equity Committee promotes and supports equity in education for girls.

We co-sponsor the "Expanding Your Horizons" math/science workshop for Junior High School girls, held annually on the second Saturday in March, at San Jose State University .  We certainly would appreciate assistance at this event.  We'll advertise our needs in the Imprint.

We also support middle school-aged girls' attendance at the week-long Tech Trek math/science/technology camp sponsored by California AAUW and held annually each summer at Stanford University .  Scholarship funds are raised by the Books and Brownies Sales held biannually in conjunction with the Cupertino and Sunnyvale City Wide Garage Sales, and through generous donations by individuals and companies.

If you would like to make a donation to provide a Tech Trek scholarship, please call Peggy Stephan for details at 408-865-1880 or via e-mail, pegstephan@aol.com.  The cost to send one student to Tech Trek is $650, but smaller donations can be bundled together, so any amount is welcome.  The girls report back to us that this camp changes their perceptions of college and career opportunities in very positive ways.

Our Educational Equity Committee is a very active group; we're always interested in new members.  We meet every second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in members’ homes.  We work on various projects throughout the year.  All interested members are welcome.
